♣ The Curriculum
Academically, the
curriculum at Saint Patrick’s is based
on the New York State standards and the Archdiocesan Essential
Learnings guidelines. Students’ needs,
talents, and individual learning styles are recognized through a
variety of instructional techniques and an environment where creativity
is encouraged, particularly through the theater arts program. The
continuum of academic development is maintained through integration of
subject matter within the classroom, sequential learning experiences
from grade to grade, and application of subject matter to life skills.
Evaluation of student progress is an ongoing component of curriculum
development, and a combination of authentic and traditional assessment
is used through the grades.
As prescribed by the State Education Department and in accordance with
the Archdiocese of New York, instruction is given in all grades in the
following subjects:
Mathematics Science Reading
Physical Education Spelling
Music Writing Art
Language Arts Computer
Social Studies Library
Health Education Spanish (Gr. 6-8)

Homework
All
students in
grades K through eight participate in the ITBS Testing Program in
language arts, mathematics, and reading. Students in grades four
through seven are also tested in science, social studies and reference
skills. Cognitive skills tests are given in Grades 2, 4, 5, and 7. In
the fall, Kindergarten children are also evaluated with the
Metropolitan Readiness Test.
Every student is provided with an individual student profile which
details his/her performance in each major concept tested. This profile
guides teachers in determining the direction of further diagnostic
testing and subsequent program planning.
Special reports are prepared for parents, which are distributed and
explained in May.
The Archdiocese of New York requires every student to be tested in
Religion from Grades 3-8.
